“When we try to help veterans the hardest thing we find is how to find them and get the message to them. “We wanted to put together a group of veterans to come out and run in formation,” Veterans Business Council member Chris Homicz said. The 30-member pack was made up of Saratoga Chamber of Commerce’s Veterans Business Council and members of Team Red White and Blue, both veterans advocacy groups. One group stood out more than the rest by dressing in all-red and running the race in formation. Patriotic colors and accessories were displayed by many of the race’s 2,784 participants and the many spectators that lined the streets to watch the event. Karen Bertasso, 32, of Albany took second with a 23:20 and Saratoga Springs High School rising senior Amelia Mahoney was third in 23:24. “I just tried to get out fast and not look backwards.”
